The Five Doctor Appointments Women Should Make Every Year

Whatever your age, you must take care of your health. As a woman, you may experience changes in your metabolism, hormones, etc. Whether you are working, studying, or taking care of your family, a healthy diet and lifestyle must be followed. Making appointments, like a women’s wellness check-up with your doctor, and turning up on time for those appointments, are also crucial. Some disorders involve silent symptoms. In these cases, you will find out that you have a particular disorder or disease only at a later stage. This is why checking your body regularly and maintaining appointments with doctors is of utmost importance.

1. Women’s Wellness Check-up

Despite the hectic schedule you might be having, make an appointment for a general health check-up at least once a year. You can do this wellness check-up with your doctor/healthcare provider. A general check-up is important if there is a family history of a particular illness or disorder. If your doctor suggests that you do any tests, ensure that you get them done. Thus, you will know if you possess the tendency for developing your family illness or any other health condition. It is always wise to heed the saying, “Prevention is better than cure!”

2. Annual Gynaecologist Visit

Since a gynaecologist is an expert in women’s health, including periods, reproduction and pregnancy, you must plan gynaecologic visits regularly. If you are in your 20s or 30s, you must have a more frequent checkup with a gynaecologist because these are the child-bearing years. In case of pregnancy, you should pay attention to all the advice and suggestions from your doctor. Gynaecologists are also well-equipped to treat pelvic floor dysfunctions and bladder leaks.

3. Eye Exam for Vision and Eye Health

You see the whole world with your eyes. So, an annual eye checkup is a must. Consult your ophthalmologist regularly even if you don’t wear glasses. If you are in your 40s, your ophthalmologist will check you for age-related eye problems such as macular degeneration and glaucoma. The eye doctor will also diagnose problems like diabetes and similar health conditions in case you have them.

If you are aware that you are diabetic, ensure that you consult your ophthalmologist more frequently (instead of just once a year) and get your eyes checked thoroughly. You need to do this because diabetes can affect many of the organs in your body, including your eyes.

4. Mammogram Appointment

Mammograms are X-rays of the breasts. They find out the irregularities, if any, in the breast tissue. Since a mammogram is a screening test that detects breast cancer in its early stages, you should have it done annually. Breast cancer in the initial stage can be treated quite easily. However, it’s hard to treat it at a later stage. This is the reason why you should go for a mammogram every year. If you are in your 30s or 40s, you need to be more cautious about this.

5. Heart Health Assessment

Your entire life depends on your heartbeat. So, keep track of your heart health by fixing regular appointments with a cardiologist.

It is a known fact that we live in a world of stress and deadlines, especially for women who juggle duties both at home and at work. Many women having issues related to blood pressure or cardiovascular disease come to know about it only at a later stage. So, periodic heart health assessments can, sometimes, be life-saving.

Although a women’s wellness check-up can give you an idea of your overall health, special appointments like the above have to be fixed and followed up to have a deeper understanding of your body. By doing that, you can confirm that everything is fine with your body and mind.

Never Miss Your Appointments!

Added to the above check-ups, you can consult a dermatologist, dentist, and other doctors who specialize in the respective fields of medicine.

Remember the quote, “Health is Wealth!” the next time you feel like skipping your doctor’s appointment.
