Your Hair Reveals Your Personality
Your hair is like an asset to your body. It is one of the sources of your beauty and personality. So, you should at least follow the basic required procedures for hair care, especially while oiling, washing and drying.
According to Ayurvedic experts, almost half of the Indian women are losing hair faster than before. It’s the result of an internal imbalance within us. Rather than blaming all sorts of beauty products, due to their poor quality ingredients, we could identify and resolve this complex problem ourselves.
We should avoid the silly mistakes we make while washing our hair. Here are some very basic tips that will make it easier for you to maintain your hair. They will be helpful in reducing hair fall and damage and can cure dull, dry and brittle hair.
1. Apply Oil Before Shampoo
Shampoos may contain ingredients or chemicals which could cause your hair strands to lose essential oils. So, oiling can help us fight with this problem. Thanks to our Moms’ and Grandmoms’ lessons.
You can apply coconut, olive, castor, mustard or any other oil as per your choice. Mixing lemon juice with olive oil or coconut oil to massage your scalp can be fruitful. The vitamin C found in the juice will stimulate hair growth, strengthen, and will also reduce hair loss.
Heat the oil gently. Then carefully with your finger tips, apply the oil to your entire scalp in a circular motion. The oil should reach out to the roots till the tips. Massage your head at least two to three hours before washing.
2. Comb Your Hair Before Or During Shampoo
Wet hair is weak and more delicate. It’s difficult to detangle while it is wet. It might also break the strands. So, it’s better to comb your hair before or at the time of shampooing prior to washing. Those having thin hair should use a brush or a wide comb for easy detangling. You can split and then comb to prevent hair loss.
3. Soaking
Soak your hair well with lukewarm water for a minute before applying shampoo. This will open the pores of your scalp.
4. Dilute Your Shampoo
Remember to dilute your shampoo by mixing it with water before applying. This will lower the concentration of the shampoo which you will apply.
5. Massage While Shampooing
Massaging your head while shampooing will help to stimulate and exfoliate your scalp. Rub your fingers repeatedly but gently in small circles covering all the portions of your head.
6. Rinse Properly
Rinse with lukewarm water after scrubbing. Make sure that dirt, dandruff, skin flakes, residue, and any type of oils are washed away thoroughly. Brush your hair at the start of taking the shower. This will enhance the blood circulation in the scalp, reduce hair fall, split ends and will open up the pores.
7. Apply Conditioner
Once you have washed away your shampoo thoroughly, now, it’s time to apply the conditioner. Choose a conditioner which goes hand in hand with your shampoo. Avoid applying the conditioner on your scalp. It’s only to be applied from the middle part of your hair till the ends. A comb will be helpful in applying the conditioner evenly.
Follow the directions as mentioned in the conditioner’s pack. Normally, the instructions say to keep the conditioner for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing. Ensure that you wash it off completely. If any residue remains, it can cause damage and make it look dull.
8. Final Rinsing
Washing with cold water at the end of your hair cleaning procedure is highly recommended. Get rid of all your conditioner and shampoo by washing with cold water. This helps each strand to retain its moisture.
9. Dry Gently
Wipe your hair gently to squeeze out the excess water with a towel after the wash. Experts say that rubbing harshly can cause much harm. You can also leave it to dry on its own.
10. How To Select A Suitable Shampoo and Conditioner
According to most stylists, choosing a shampoo should address your hair’s condition and requirements. You should choose a shampoo considering your scalp to mid-length. Your conditioner should suit your hair’s mid-length till your tips. For example, if you have thin hair, opt for a volumizing shampoo and a hydrating conditioner.
