What is Migraine?

Migraine is a neurological disorder where the patient experiences a severe headache on the half side of his head. Also can be called as the severe attack of headache. Migraine is taken from a Greek word. This headache is not even in the head and can stay for 2 hours to 72 hours. Some people can see the symptoms like a phobia of sound and light, vomiting and nausea. Migraine headaches are sometimes misunderstood as the sinus or stress headaches. The regularity of this headache attack can be sometimes many times in a week or sometimes once a year.

Prevention

Almost 30 million Americans have a migraine problem. The best option is to prevent them as it is very effective. Many things can be done to reduce the severity of the pain or to understand when the pain will hit.

Follow a chart or a planner or a diary, where you can note the number of days you had a headache. With the help of the updates in the diary, it will be easy to find out some common reasons for the trigger of the headache. The doctor can compare and diagnose the reason. Make a note of the activities that you did before or after the trigger.

A few things can be responsible for the possible triggers of migraine.

  • Lack of sleep
  • Dehydration.
  • Food allergies.
  • Bright lights.
  • Loud noise.
  • Stress and worry
  • Hormonal change
  • Wrong food
  • Certain colors
  • Change in weather

Understand the early warnings or symptoms of migraine attack. It can be anything from mood swings to a particular food, stress and anxiety.

The symptoms can be:

  • Increase or decrease in food intake
  • Sensitive to flashy lights and loud noise.
  • Restlessness
  • Dizziness, feeling light-headed.
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea

Learn to understand the early sign of triggers and that can avoid the migraine trigger. A number of things that have been noticed can be changed if they are the main cause of the trigger.

  • Review your notes in the diary and you will understand the common things you did during the migraine trigger followed after the same.
  • Observe if the attack occurs at a specific time of the day, so that the doctor can work on the same.
  • Once you and your physician understand the patterns of the migraine behavior, and then follow the plan of action the doctor gives.If you know the pattern of foods that makes you understand the type of food that triggers the migraine. Remove them from your diet. Remember all of the migraine patients will not have triggers with the same style of food. Eat a well balanced meal with fruits, vegetable and dairy.
