Evelyn entered the living room, where Patricia, Clara, and Naomi were seated. Evelyn saw that her friends were involved in animated gossip, so they didn’t notice her entry. “Whoa, girls! Can I join the banter?” Evelyn quipped. Her friends turned to look at Evelyn. “Sure!” they chorused together. Patricia, the house owner, cleared her throat and cried, “Ladies! Anyone needs breakfast? I have some oat pancakes left!” The other three nodded their heads, and Naomi said, “Oat pancakes? Never heard of them! I know these grains are healthy, but I’ve never really given much thought about how to eat oats for breakfast!

Patricia replied, “There are a hundred ways to add these grains to your breakfast, and I know a few of them! Let me serve you some pancakes, and tell me what you think!”

Patricia served her pancakes, along with maple syrup, to the others. As soon as Clara tasted the first bite, she cried, “Ooooh… Yummy!!! How on earth did you make this, Pat?”

Patricia laughed at her enthusiasm, and stated, “I will let you know the recipe right away!”

Naomi and Evelyn nodded their heads vigorously and said, “Yes, we would also like to know the recipe. It’s awesome!”

Patricia’s Recipe for Oat Pancakes

Patricia addressed her friends, who had some sheets of paper and pens ready to note down the recipe. She said, “Oats are surely one of those foods that improve your overall health. Now, let’s look at the ingredients for our pancakes…”

Ingredients

  • Oats – 1 cup (Organic instant grains are preferable, but you can also use rolled ones)
  • Salt (as per requirements)
  • Baking powder  – to make the pancakes fluffy
  • Eggs – 3 or 4
  • Sugar (as per requirements)
  • Cinnamon powder (optional)
  • A ladle of butter
  • Oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Maple syrup (or chocolate syrup)

Patricia said, “That’s it, guys. Now, let’s look at the procedure!” The others paid close attention.

Procedure

  1. First, make a fine powder from the oats by blending or processing it. For this, just put the grains in the blender and get the powder.
  2. Mix one and a half cups of the powder with baking powder, salt, and cinnamon powder (if required).
  3. Melt the butter and put it in a bowl.
  4. Add the eggs, milk, and sugar to the ingredients in the bowl.
Whisk the items well. Now, add the mixed powder to the items in the bowl.
  5. Mix everything well again to get the batter. Ensure it has a thick, pouring consistency.
  6. Next, take a pan and heat it.
  7. Pour a ladle of batter without spreading it too much.
  8. Add a few drops of oil or butter to the batter. Heat till the pancake takes shape.
  9. Once it’s cooked on one side, turn the pancake on its other side and heat it till golden brown. Ensure both sides are cooked well.
  10. Serve by adding some maple syrup. If you prefer chocolate syrup, then serve the pancake with that!

Patricia looked at Evelyn, Clara, and Naomi, who were eagerly taking down notes. She smiled and said, “Guys! Any questions?”

The others shook their heads, put their pens down, and relaxed. Clara exclaimed, “Wow! That’s, indeed, a great way to eat oats for breakfast! Thank you, Pat!

Clara continued, “Girls, did you know that these grains contain essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber? I too know a simple oatmeal recipe that I would like to share…”

To this, Evelyn stated, “Why wait? Start revealing your secret recipe to us!”

Clara’s Recipe for Overnight Sugar-Free Oats

So Clara started with the ingredients…

Ingredients

  • Rolled oats – 1 cup
  • Chia seeds – 1-2 teaspoons
  • Cinnamon (if preferred)
  • Finely chopped dates, raisins, or apricots
  • Grated nutmeg – ¼ teaspoon
  • Non-dairy milk – 1 ¼ cups
  • Sea salt – a pinch

Procedure

  1. Take a bowl and add the grains, chia seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, non-dairy milk, salt, and the finely chopped items.
  2. Stir the mixture well.
  3. Cover the bowl and keep it in the refrigerator overnight.
  4. In the morning, let it be thick (which is how the mixture will be), or add more non-dairy milk to make the mixture thin.
  5. Serve the mixture with delicious toppings.

Clara stated, “Girls! Do you know that eating oats is beneficial for health because they help with weight loss and minimize the risks of heart disease? That said, does anyone else have recipes?”

Now, Evelyn stood up and exclaimed, “Yes! I do. It’s called, “Veggie Oats!””

“Is it your own recipe, or did you take that from the net?” the others teased Evelyn.

She replied by saying, “Not at all! It was passed to me from my grandmother, who was an expert in traditional recipes. It’s a very convenient way of eating oats for breakfast. So here goes!”
