A mother’s love for her child begins right from the time of conception. The bond between a mom and her child is the strongest, and no other bond can replace it. We live and breathe because of our mothers. We sit, stand, run around, and do everything we wish to do under the sun because of them. They are our pillar of support, and without them, this world will come to a standstill. Our moms care for us right from the day we are born, and this nurturing continues through our childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. So let’s take some time to reflect on the sacrifices these superwomen make for us, and understand why we celebrate Mother’s Day every year.
A Mother’s Love Transcends All Barriers
You must never underestimate the unwavering love and support of your mom. If you go through a hard time, your mom is the first person who consoles and comforts you. She crumbles down even if she spots a single drop of tear from your eyes. Any time you are in trouble, she has got your back. Her unconditional love for you and your family is so powerful that it transcends all barriers.

History of Mother’s Day
When and where did the true Mother’s Day begin? – A question for which many people need to know the answer. So let’s plunge into the details!
The tradition of honoring mothers existed even from the times of ancient Greeks and Romans, who worshipped the mother goddesses known as Rhea and Cybele. Rhea is the Greek goddess, and Cybele is her Roman equivalent.
The American Mother’s Day dates back to the years before the Civil War. Ann Marie Jarvis, from West Virginia, arranged “Mother’s Day Work Clubs,” which guided the local women, including single mothers, to take care of their kids and families more efficiently. Following the Civil War, people, especially women, went through lots of hardships, and the clubs started by Jarvis worked towards reconciliation and world peace.
After the death of Ann Marie Jarvis in 1905, her devoted daughter, Anna Jarvis began the Mother’s Day tradition, as a way of celebrating moms’ sacrifices for their children. In 1914, the day was declared a public holiday. So it took Anna Jarvis around 9 years to campaign and promote the day in the US!
When Is Mother’s Day?
Following the efforts of Anna Jarvis, President Woodrow Wilson signed a contract that stated Mother’s Day would be celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
In more than 40 countries, people observe this important day on different dates. In the UK, it is celebrated 3 weeks before Easter. In Costa Rica, Thailand, and Georgia, It is declared a public holiday. Some nations observe this special day in March.
When Is Mother’s Day in the US?
As stated earlier, people in the US commonly celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May. They buy their moms and grandmoms goodies they like and shower them with presents. Many take their moms out for a lavish lunch or dinner. Others honor their moms by inviting all their kith and kin, arranging parties/get-togethers, or cooking their favorite dishes. Here’s how you can treat your mom on Mother’s Day!
How did Mother’s Day start?
Mother’s Day is held on the second Sunday of May and originated from the ancient civilizations of Greeks and Romans to honor mother goddesses. Despite this, its contemporary form dates back to the United States with the person named Anna Jarvis, who in 1907 organized a commemoration of her mother’s death. This motivated Jarvis, who wanted to pay homage to the sacrifices that mothers make, having been influenced by her mother who was involved in women’s groups. Due to the hard work of Clyde Hills, Mother’s Day was celebrated and it became a National Holiday in the year 1914 by Woodrow Wilson. While it was conceived as a humble remembrance of the man, the day has become more of a business, something Jarvis came to bitterly rue.
