All you need to know about eyebrow bleaching

What is eyebrow bleaching?

Eyebrow bleaching is a chemical process that lightens brows. This process actually takes out the natural pigment melanin from the tiny eyebrows leaving them in a lighter shade like golden blonde.  The color-lightening differs depending on the period of time the eyebrows are exposed to bleach.

Eyebrow bleaching is mostly opted to match the hair color. This trend works for all skin tones. Famous celebrities and models are choosing this trendy eyebrow-bleaching technique to look more cooler and appealing.

What is inside an eyebrow bleach kit?

The kit includes bleach (like hydrogen peroxide), an activator, a mixing cup, an application stick or brush, and a spatula. The commonly used bleaching agents nowadays are hydrogen peroxide and persulfate salts. But in ancient times agents such as sulfuric acid, wood ash, and hypochlorite bleach were used for bleaching hair.

Thin eyebrows trend

Eyebrow bleaching is said to be inspired by 90’s pencil-thin eyebrow trends. The bleached seamless brows are more or less similar to the skinny brows.

Let us explore what are the eyebrow trends pros and cons.

Advantages of eyebrow bleaching

Easy and time efficient

The procedure is very simple and it takes only 15 or 20 minutes to bring out the expected results.

Grey strands

An easy and efficient way to cover the grey brows making you look younger.

Cost-effective

The eyebrow bleaching kit is easily available in the market and it is very cost-effective also.

A rich makeover

The overall appearance after the process gives a rich makeover look.

Limitations of eyebrow bleaching

Damage to eyebrow

The bleach used can damage the delicate eyebrow strands and break from roots. Eyebrows are more sensitive than hair strands, thus when exposed to bleach continuously can result in a rough and damaged texture.

Safety

It is risky to get harsh chemicals near the sensitive part of your eyes. The bleaching agents contain chemicals like ammonia and peroxide which can cause eye irritation and when not administered properly can cause eye blindness.

Skin burns

The chemicals irritate the skin where the bleach is applied. The process can result in temporary inconveniences like redness and scaling. Some can face harsh rashes and burns when exposed to bleaching.

Alternate home bleaching

Chamomile

You can use chamomile infusion bags for lightening the brows. Along with a certain amount of exposure to sunlight it gives the shade-down effect.

Makeup

The best alternative for a bleached effect could be painting the eyebrows with pencils or eye shadows with lighter tones. It is a short-time result.

Hydrogen peroxide

When compared to other chemicals, hydrogen peroxide is relatively safer. But need to be administered safely.

Bleached brows before and after

Preparing the brows

  • Make sure the area of application is without any bruise, cut, or inflammation.
  • Clean the skin with gentle soap before the application of bleach cream to remove dirt and makeup.
  • Check for the routine threading and grooming you always do for perfect good shape, because bleaching can result in drying of brows. Immediate changes after bleaching can be avoided.
  • A Patch test is a must before testing it on the face directly. Do a small test on a hidden part of the body for any kind of reaction and then go for it.
  • Tie your hair back to avoid any discomfort during the process.

Steps for eyebrow bleaching

  • Preparation

Mix the bleach powder and activator in a glass bowl or a non-reactive container with a brush.

  • Application

Apply the paste on the brows with a stick or small brush carefully without getting near the eyes.

  • Clean

Wipe off the cream gently with a cotton swap dipped in water or wet wipes.

Aftercare

The bleached strands need moisture and care. You can use vaseline, coconut oil, or aloe vera gel to soothe the processed area.
